عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) نَزَلَ جَبْرَئِيلُ ( عليه السلام ) عَلَيَّ بِالْخِلَالِ .

1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘ Umayr from Hisham ibn Salim who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘ Jibril came to me with the toothpick.’” 

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَمِيلَةَ قَالَ قَالَ لِي أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) نَزَلَ جَبْرَئِيلُ ( عليه السلام ) عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) بِالسِّوَاكِ وَ الْخِلَالِ وَ الْحِجَامَةِ .

2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from abu Jamilah who has said the following: “Abu ‘ Abd Allah (a.s.), once said to me, ‘Jibril came to the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, with the toothbrush, toothpick and cupping.’” 

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ وَهْبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) يَتَخَلَّلُ فَنَظَرْتُ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) كَانَ يَتَخَلَّلُ وَ هُوَ يُطَيِّبُ الْفَمَ .

3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from ibn Mahbub from Wahab ibn ‘Abd Rabbibhi who has said the following: “I once saw abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), using toothpicks and I looked at him (the Imam). He (the Imam) said, ‘The Messenger of Allah would use a toothpick; it cleanses the mouth.’” 

مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْحَذَّاءِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَسَدِيِّ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ نَاوَلَ النَّبِيُّ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) جَعْفَرَ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ( عليه السلام ) خِلَالًا فَقَالَ لَهُ يَا جَعْفَرُ تَخَلَّلْ فَإِنَّهُ مَصْلَحَةٌ لِلْفَمِ أَوْ قَالَ لِلِّثَةِ وَ مَجْلَبَةٌ لِلرِّزْقِ .

4. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ibrahim al-Hadhdha’ from Ahmad ibn ‘Abd Allah al-Asadiy from a man who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, once gave a toothpick to Ja‘far ibn abu Talib (a.s.), and said, ‘O Ja‘far use a toothpick. It is beneficial for the mouth ’ or he said, ‘It is beneficial for the gums and attracts sustenance.’” 

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ الْقَدَّاحِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) تَخَلَّلُوا فَإِنَّهُ مَصْلَحَةٌ لِلِّثَةِ وَ النَّوَاجِدِ .

5. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ja‘far ibn Muhammad al-Ash‘ariy from ibn al-Qaddah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah has said, ‘You must use a toothpick it is beneficial for the gum (gingival) and the back teeth.’” 

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ الْقَدَّاحِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) تَخَلَّلُوا فَإِنَّهُ يُنَقِّي الْفَمَ وَ مَصْلَحَةٌ لِلِّثَةِ .

6. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from his father from Ali ibn al-Nu’man from Ya‘qub ibn Shu’ayb from those who narrated to him who has said the following: “Once, prepared toothpicks were brought to abu al-Hassan (a.s.), when he was in the house of Fadl ibn Yunus. He (the Imam) took a fragment (piece) and left the rest.’” 

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ النُّعْمَانِ عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَمَّنْ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) أُتِيَ بِخِلَالٍ مِنَ الْأَخِلَّةِ الْمُهَيَّأَةِ وَ هُوَ فِي مَنْزِلِ فَضْلِ بْنِ يُونُسَ فَأَخَذَ مِنْهَا شَظِيَّةً وَ رَمَى الْبَاقِيَ .

7. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Ibrahim ibn ‘Abd al-Hamid who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan (a.s.), has said, ‘Do not use sticks of sweet basil or pomegranate as a toothpick because they stir up the vein of leprosy.’” 

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ لَا تَخَلَّلُوا بِعُودِ الرَّيْحَانِ وَ لَا بِقَضِيبِ الرُّمَّانِ فَإِنَّهُمَا يُهَيِّجَانِ عِرْقَ الْجُذَامِ .

8. Ali has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Yunus ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman from those whom he has mentioned who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said, ‘If one uses reeds as toothpicks none of his wishes can come true for six days.’” 

عَلِيٌّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَمَّنْ ذَكَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مَنْ تَخَلَّلَ بِالْقَصَبِ لَمْ تُقْضَ لَهُ حَاجَةٌ سِتَّةَ أَيَّامٍ .

9. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from af-Nawfafiy from af-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, prohibited using reeds or sweet basil sticks for toothpicks.”’ 

عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) أَنْ يُتَخَلَّلَ بِالْقَصَبِ وَ الرَّيْحَانِ .

10. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Dihqan from Durust from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, would use for a toothpick all kinds of wooden fragments except the leaves of palm trees and reeds.’” 

عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ الدِّهْقَانِ عَنْ دُرُسْتَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) يَتَخَلَّلُ بِكُلِّ مَا أَصَابَ مَا خَلَا الْخُوصَ وَ الْقَصَبَ .

11. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from certain ones who narrated who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.), has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, prohibited using pomegranate fragments as toothpicks, as well as myrtle and reeds, saying that they stir up the erosive vein.’”
